The report seeks approval to extend the
contract for the Counselling and Support Service for Vulnerable
Adults.
Established in September 2015 the service constitutes part of the
wider support and compensation package that has been put in place
to assist individuals who have experienced and/or been affected by
abuse and/or neglect whilst in the care of Shirley Oaks and other
children’s homes managed by Lambeth Council.
The contract ended on 30th September 2018 and the intention to
extend the contract from 1st October up to 30th June 2020 to
provide psychological support to vulnerable people who may affected
by abuse. Extension of the contract will ensure that that the
council fulfils its obligations to safeguard the wellbeing of
individuals, many of whom have significant emotional and
psychological needs as a consequence the abuse and neglect they
suffered.
This will mean that medium to longer term support is in place for
individuals, including those who may wish to give to testimony to
the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse (IICSA) or making
applications for compensation under the Lambeth Redress
Scheme.
