This proposed decision follows a High Court Order preventing
removal of a ‘tree of heaven’ located at the rear of
the Durning Library until the council had fully considered the
impact of the trees removal on the Kennington Conservation Area. As
a consequence of public consultation the council has also been
requested to consider the benefits of the tree in respect to
health, air quality, biodiversity, and to overall quality of life
before determining any decision that may result in the tree being
removed.
Following consideration of all of the evidence, research and
community feedback this proposed decision recommends that the
council undertake the controlled removal of the tree of heaven
located at the rear of the Durning Library. The decision report was
published on 19 June 2015 and written representations on this
matter were invited to be submitted to Councillor Jane Edbrooke,
Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods by the 12 July
2015.
This updated decision report follows a period of review and reflection following receipt of written representations from a number of groups/individuals.
