Council response

Dear Florence,

PETITION FOR A “GREEN MAN” SIGNALS AT THE JUNCTION OF CAVENDISH ROAD AND CLAPHAM COMMON SOUTH, CLAPHAM

At the last Council Meeting, Councillor Joanna Reynolds presented a petition with 263 signatures calling for Transport for London and Lambeth Council to introduce a signalised pedestrian crossing at the junction of Cavendish Rd (South Circular) and Clapham Common Southside (A24). Councillor Joe Corry-Roake has subsequently forwarded a copy to Transport for London.

Whilst both roads are part of the strategic road network for which TfL are the highway authority, I write in full support of the petitioners’ request. The absence of any positive pedestrian crossing facilities at this junction creates a significant obstacle for the considerable number of pedestrians that must cross here to reach the tube station, the Balham Hill shops and nearby schools. The challenges are such that some of our most vulnerable citizens are not able to cross safely.

I look forward to receiving a copy of your officers’ recommendations.

Yours sincerely,

Claire Holland,
Cabinet Member for the Environment and Clean Air
