London Horizons Leisure Club and Accommodation is due to close on 1 April.
We petition Lambeth Council to work with local partners to find a way to keep the facilities open and to consult members of the club and residents of the accommodation.
London Horizons provides inestimable local benefit and is a much loved community resource. It is also supports the delivery of Lambeth's 'Get Active' agenda; and it provides a lifeline for local people's health and wellbeing.
Keeping Horizons open would benefit:
The staff who work there, some of whom actually live on site so as well as losing their jobs some will be losing their homes on 1 April, unless a way is found to keep the facilities open.
The non-staff residents who live in the accommodation who are going to be made homeless from 1 April.
The instructors who do so much to keep local people fit and active.
The many children and young people who have swimming lessons at the club.
The many adult members of the club who use the facilities to keep fit and active and thereby improve their physical health and wellbeing.
The many local businesses who benefit from the residents living in the accommodation as well as all those tourists and visitors who rent some of the rooms for holidays and trips.
The local economy of this part of Lambeth and thereby Lambeth overall.
Keeping the facilities open would save jobs, save homes, save our health and wellbeing and the health and wellbeing of our children, and save the local economy - all of which are at risk if a way is not found to keep the facilities open.
We petition Lambeth Council to work to save this precious local resource and benefit.
