Sternhold Avenue - Traffic Calming Measures Required

We the undersigned petition the Council to We want the council to install traffic calming measures on Sternhold Avenue between Streatham Hill Vets and Rastell Avenue. This could be as easy as a couple of speed humps, which would rectify a very unsafe situation.

The portion of Sternhold Avenue from Streatham Hill Vets to Rastell Avenue (edge of Tooting Common) is a long, straight mostly single laned road. The road is used as a shortcut/rat run and cars travel at extremely dangerous speeds. As it one lane, with cars parked continuously on both sides, these speeding cars/motorbikes/delivery vans create a significant hazard if a car comes out of either Tenham Avenue, Salford Road or Rastell Avenue. This road is continually used by pedestrians going toward the common, an the nearby schools. The people are: parents, children, dog walkers, elderly people. If any of these inadvertently stepped between the cars on this narrow road when one of these cars comes down, it'd be a horrific accident! Some simple measures, such as speed humps, would discourage these cars from racing up and down this section of road, and provide us local residents with peace of mind that the safety of our children and pets aren't at risk from dangerous drivers.
