Decision details

Extension of leases on leasehold flats owned by the Council

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Housing

Decision status: Recommendations Approved (subject to call-in)

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The purpose of this report is to highlight the short unexpired term remaining on the leases of 11 residential flats owned by the Council, and to suggest a statutory basis for extending the leases.

Retaining these properties in Council ownership could save the payment of dilapidation costs to freeholders and would assist in long term planning.

Decision:

1.         To extend the lease by 90 years for those leasehold flats owned by the Council where the lease currently has less than 80 years to run, at an estimated cost of £1.467m plus an additional £74,000 for associated legal costs.
